Our Mission: We, as volunteers offer hope, support, guidance and a 24 hours crisis line with all forms of depression and for their advocates.

Depressed and Manic-Depressed Association Inc. of South Carolina is A Not for Profit Mental Health Support Group for individuals facing the challenges of mental illness.

We focus on allowing all participants to share their experiences and feelings in a safe and confidential environment.

Feelings of isolation can be immobilizing. Support can give relief from isolation while giving the opportunity to associate with others with mental illness.

Sharing our own experiences can lead to increased self-esteem, self-awareness, self-confidence and help with the hopelessness feelings that most of us feel.

Our group provides great opportunities for learning new strategies and options for dealing with the daily rigors of living with any mental illness.

Support can keep us focused on the now, while moving us forward with recovery.

We will always see the individual first, not the illness and we will never judge anyone's pain as less than our own.

We would like to share with you some information about our local Mental Health Support Group that is incorporated according to the laws of the State of South Carolina.

Our structured programs are designed to emphasize patient education, edification and stigma elimination. We work with those who have been diagnosed as depressed and/or manic-depressed.

We educate individuals about illness, how to take personal responsibility and to strictly adhere to taking the medications that have been prescribed by their physician.

We do not in any way try to supplant the physician's authority, but work hand in hand with those affected by the illness and their physicians to achieve better over-all mental health.

In our support group we have a newcomer package that lists local professional medical personnel and facilities available in this area.
